When I design my filigree work, I try to use the traditional shapes of the silversmiths of my heritage in Norway. That said, I prefer to twist square wire for the shapes rather than use the traditional fine silver wire.
This makes a very sturdy everyday wear item.
If you look closely you will see that everywhere silver touches silver I have a solder join. It is a labor of love, very time consuming.
This piece is 2" by 1 1/2" and hangs on a sterling 24" box chain.
